WebDav Access on Mail

Index of /webdav

One of the key plug-ins that my users wanted was to use WebDav to post their iCals so they would not have to pay for .mac. I have resolved this issue with the upgrade of the new Panther server for email. I added the WebDav module and then set up a share point in /Library/WebServer/Documents/ called webdav . I set up webdav by going to Server Admin / Web / Settings / Options and then clicked on WebDav and clicked save. Then I went back through Server Admin to Web / Settings / Realms and set up a new realm that pointed to my /Library/WebServer/Documents/webdav directory. Once that was set up, I added users that could browse and / or author. I took off the default "Everyone" so that a password would be required to see the folder listing of the webdav directory. Finally, I found a note in the web services documentation that you have to manually change the permissions on the webdav folder to be have owner as www with read / write privileges.

Once that was all set up, I connected in a couple of ways:

1. Finder / Connect to Server / and entered http://mail.haddon.k12.nj.us/webdav/ to access the folder that way.

2. Go to Safari and enter http://mail.haddon.k12.nj.us/webdav/ this will ask you to log on and then take you to the directory.

3. Go to iCal, click on a calendar you want to publish, and then click on Calendar in the menu / and then click on Publish - for the path - enter: http://mail.haddon.k12.nj.us/webdav/ , choose the options that you want and then click Publish. To see an image of the setup dialog box, go to http://mail.haddon.k12.nj.us/webdav/icalsetup.pdf

4. To access the folder via Windows, go to Network Places, add a new network place, enter the path: http://mail.haddon.k12.nj.us/webdav/ and then click on Finish. You will have to enter your login and password. You can then save your calendar from Outlook as a web page, by going to File / Save as web page / navigate to the webdav network place you just added and then set up the options as you wish. Click on Save. To access your calendar, just go to http://mail.haddon.k12.nj.us/webdav/ and then the name you gave the file with .html on the end.

This is very cool! I uploaded my calendar to http://mail.haddon.k12.nj.us/webdav/lhill082004.html . Life is good!

Sending Mail from Squirrel Mail Does Not Refresh Page

Users can't send email within SquirrelMail: "sudo apachectl stop
"
"In certain circumstances, users see a browser error or the page doesn't reload when they try to send a message via SquirrelMail."

We had this problem on server set up - 7/29/2004. Correction was implemented as stated below from this web site:

"The issue happens if the Apache environment includes definitions for SSL related settings while the server is not actually running via SSL. This can occur when the Web server is restarted via Server Admin. To resolve the issue, execute these two commands in Terminal:

# sudo apachectl stop

# sudo apachectl start"

This corrected the problem! Yeah!

MacDevCenter.com: LDAP in Mac OS X Server

MacDevCenter.com: LDAP in Mac OS X Server

This is a good article about setting up LDAP on Mac OS X.3 Server for open directory. This might be something to look at later. There are a few other links that look good to like:

More LDAP in Mac OS X Server - http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2004/06/18/ldap.html

Open Directory Page from Apple - http://www.apple.com/support/macosxserver/opendirectory/

We got the mail server up and running, but we can not change the password back to the LDAP server. This still needs to be finished.

Blue Wrench from Landmark-Project.com

David Warlick, owner and creator of the Landmark Project (http://www.landmark-project.com), has created a powerful tool for teachers / educators called Blue Wrench which allows teachers to create their own class sites.  My example page is located at http://pinetlibrary.com/classpage.php?page_id=2805&status=last To edit the page, I just have to click on the Blue Wrench at the bottom of the page and enter my password.

I love this, but I wonder how much this overlaps with Edline?

I know that there is an aspect that allows us to connect my bookmarks from Dave's PiNet Library to this page as well.  Hmmmm.... some more to think about.

Creative Commons License

I found an amazing site today which manages some of the copyright issues surrounding all of us in this Information Age.

You can choose to have a limited copyright so that others may use your work for non-commercial use and you can allow them to modify or not allow them as well as other options.

I created a license from their wizard by going to http://creativecommons.org/license/ and then choosing the options that I wanted.  I created this license for images that I post on my blog and on http://www.Flickr.com, where I post my photos.

Below is the badge and the tag that covers my pictures on this blog.
